About Rebekah
Background, Approach, and Values
As a dedicated therapist with eight years of experience, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and American Sign Language from the University of Rochester and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. I have worked in an outpatient clinic at one of the Johns Hopkins hospitals, a group practice, and now my own private practice. In my practice, I work with adults 18+ and my areas of specialty include major life transitions, neurodivergence, anxiety and depression, and navigating a called off engagement. Experiences throughout both my clinical work and personal life have helped shape the specialties I focus on.
I am an integrative therapist, which means I pull from a variety of therapeutic interventions as they best suit each individual client. I frequently practice from an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy framework, as I love its approach for fostering mental flexibility amidst adversity and connecting with one’s values. I also incorporate techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Person-Centered Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, complemented by somatic strategies. In all sessions, I bring my warmth, compassion, empathy, authenticity, and when clinically appropriate, my sense of humor, as after all, laughter is the best medicine ;) I am a relatable therapist who strives to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel actively listened to and validated, and learn action-oriented tools. I work with adults of all races, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identities. I am committed to continued learning and understanding of how each individual’s identities shape their life experiences.
I deeply value curiosity, which not only guides my continued learning outside of session, but drives my process for exploring every part of the client’s experiences in session. To help with this, I invite creative expressions, such as using music, tv and film, literature, and visual art to help clients convey their experiences when it is otherwise difficult to articulate them in words. My mission is to help clients define what "better" means for them and guide them toward that vision to cultivate a fulfilling life, particularly focusing on the relationship they have with themselves and others.
Outside of being a therapist, I enjoy dancing, listening to music, exercising, exploring NYC (where I am based!), trying new restaurants, and spending time with my dog. I find that engaging in all of these interests enhance the way I show up in my work, and provide me with relatable metaphors that I often use to help clients understand their internal experiences.
